My First Swim

Today Mummy and I walked to David Lloyd where Mummy took me to the Ducklings swimming class (for babies and toddlers). First up I had a nice big drink, and then we went swimming ...

Mummy popped on my swim nappy and my hot pink bathers (courtesy of Nanna and Grandpa Perry). I was the funkiest baby in the pool (ok, and one of the only babies, but who is counting!). We only went in the baby pool, because it is warmer than the big pool - think we'll have to save that up for when I have some more fat on me! I did some floating/kicking on my back and front. Mummy was of course holding me. We swayed about in the water and Mummy had some toys that she could squirt water with. It got a bit rocky when some of the toddlers joined us in the pool, but by then we had been in a while, so Mummy and I got out.

After the swim I had another first - my first shower! I liked the water spraying on me and gave Mummy lots of smiles. Even though Mummy wrapped me up, once we went into the changerooms it got very cold. I cried a bit until Mummy got me nice and warm and gave me some more to drink!

We then walked home again - and got back just before it started to rain! Phew, I didn't need to get wet again!

Daddy is looking forward to going swimming with me next week sometime now as well!

Cat got your tongue?

On Wednesday one of the breast feeding midwives noticed that I was tongue-tied. She thought this might explain my slow weight gain because it prevents proper feeding. It seems like I take after my father, he can't get his tongue past his lips!

The long and the short of it was that she got me a referral to a lactation specialist, and today I got my tongue snipped! Well, not really my tongue, the frenulum (the stringy bit underneath) snipped so that I could move my tongue more. This means more milk for me, and that I will be able to stick my tongue out at other kids in the playground! Hoorah!

It was all relatively painless, 'cos the nerves aren't developed there yet. There was just a spot of bleeding, but this was stopped immediately when I was put on Mummy's boob for a feed (something to do with the pressure it creates inside the mouth). I've now had several good milky feeds today and I am content cuddling with my Daddy.

Ouch!

Today was my first round of immunisations. Arrrgh!!

2 BIG needles in each thigh. Mummy had to hold me tight while they were done, she said my face went bright red before I started to cry. I guess the good part about it though was that I got some lovely big cuddles from Mummy afterwards! I think I was pretty brave really ...

I a big girl now ...

No more moses basket for me, Mum and Dad have decided that it is time that I go in the cot. I was just getting too long for it! It seems sooo much bigger than the moses basket, but now I can look at my mobile whenever I like!

A Sunny Weekend ...

The weekend is almost over ... and it has been another lovely sunny one! Daddy took me on walks along the canal on both days, and it was great to be out! I even behaved myself on most of the trips - yesterday we were away from the feed station (i.e. Mummy) for a little too long and I did cry for a bit.

Nanna and Grandpa Perry will be proud ... Daddy even got around to mowing the lawns! They look lovely and tidy again. Ellie and Paul visited on Friday night, and they commented on how nice the garden was looking - Mummy and Daddy did confess that it was not their doing!

While Daddy was looking after me, Mummy took the opportunity to rest up a bit. The 3 hour feeds are wearing her down a bit. She is hoping for a good amount of weight gain at weigh in tomorrow, and with a bit of luck she then might be able to drop one of the night feeds. It would be nice, because she keeps waking me up for them too!!

On Friday Mummy took me to baby sensory class again. A lovely lady gave Mummy some nappies, because her daughter had grown out of them, and thought they might be ok for me. Opsadaisy, no way hosay ... everything started coming out from top and bottom, so I don't think they will be used again!! He he. Another lady told Mummy of these drops called 'Colief', which are meant to help with colic. Well Mummy hot-footed it to the chemist, and so far so good. It seems to be helping and I am not cramping so much. Hoorah!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Daddy turned 30 today!

I tried to be on my best behaviour - and I think I succeeded pretty well!

Mummy bought me a new outfit to wear, especially for Daddy (the top says 'Daddy's No.1 Girl')....

In the afternoon we all went shopping in Manchester so that Daddy could look for his birthday present. Mummy was going to buy him an exercise bike, he just had to find the one he wanted. Well, it was such a good deal that they bought it on the spot. The only catch is that it is not going to be delivered until after the 5th May. I think they are both looking forward to using it!! When we got home we took advantage of the sunny afternoon and walked along the canal to the Ferry Tavern. I was getting hungry, so we didn't stop for a drink there, but decided to have one at home. Maybe next time!! In anycase, Mum cooked one of Dad's favourite dinners (Chicken Delicious) and a yummy special orange cake. I even helped Daddy blow out the candles ...

Daddy's Home

Hoorah - Daddy came home today! When he first cuddled him I gave him a nice big smile!

We weren't home when Daddy first arrived. We had gone visiting one of Mummy's friend who also had a baby ... Daddy was going to send out the search patrol, but we arrived home just before he sent them off looking!

It is good to have Daddy home. Mummy is happy too!

Bye, bye ...

Unfortunately it was time to say good-bye to Nanna again. We had such a nice time together, and it was great to get all her cuddles. And I know Mummy is going to miss her.

This morning Mummy and I went for my 6 week check-up. I am now 56 cm long and 7lb 1oz. I got the all clear with my hearing. eye sight and hip development. They were still a little concerned that I am not putting on a lot of weight, so now I am on 3 hourly feeds, day and night - well, for the next week at least anyway. I think Mummy's plan is to feed me up really well this week, so that I get a good amount of weight gain and she doesn't have to wake me up every 3 hours during the night after the next weigh-in!
After the doctors Mummy got her haircut. Nanna came and picked me up, and there was a bit of a confusion between Mummy and Nanna ... and we were locked out of the house. Nanna eventually decided to jump the fence, and got in through the back ... phew! She is a resourceful woman my Nanna! When Mummy got back from the hairdressers (nice cut Mummy!) we went for a walk and out for lunch to the Red Lion ... Mummy's thankyou to Nanna.

Mummy is keen to hear all about him, and hope Mel and Andrew are doing well! Pictures please!!!

Baldie ...

Oh no, I've got my Daddy's genes, I am losing my hair and I am only 6 weeks old!!! Help! The worst part is, that I am only losing it on top and on the left side. I guess I will lose it on the right side as well. Mummy is sad because I won't look like I was when I was born. Ah, all these changes! Mummy does think though that I will be a little blondie when the hair grows back. What is there is looking a lighter.

Nanna has just been trying to get a smile out of me. Well, she just changed my dirty nappy, so I guess it was the least I could do! I am smiling a bit more now, and people have stopped commenting so much that it is just wind!

We - Mummy, Nanna and I - have had a busy few days. Today we walked to David Lloyd, and enjoyed the spring morning. Mum went for a swim in the outdoor pool while Nanna looked after me. Mum was happy because it was sunny and she could work on her tan. Nanna and I had to put up with some loud music, because it was a family fun day. Nanna even put tissue in her ears so it wouldn't be so loud! When Mummy came back, Nanna went for a swim and I got a feed - hoorah! Mummy and Nanna were going to have lunch there, but because of the loud music they decided to go home so that they could hear each other speak!

Yesterday started off with a play and kick on my mat. It was lots of fun, and Mummy joined in the fun too. Then we did a spot of shopping - Nanna carried me around ASDA and lots of people were looking at me!

I've been getting lots of cuddles with Nanna, which has been very nice! She does like giving me lots of baths though, and I am not so keen on those. I think Mummy wants me to be clean everyday. Mummy has also enjoyed being able to sleep through the night while Nanna feeds me when I wake up - she is a very kind woman! Aren't I lucky!!

Anyway, it is time for me to go to sleep now. Ahhh. Zzzzzzzz

Seven Pounds

Last night I said I must be on my best behaviour, and I was! I only woke up once, Mummy didn't even hear me, and then Nanna was able to change, feed and get me back to sleep within 30 mins. Mummy was a bit envious that Nanna was able to do it all so quickly. But she did enjoy her uninterrupted sleep! Hopefully Daddy is too!

Nanna and I had a bit of a cuddle in the morning ...

This afternoon we went down to the health centre, and I had another weigh in - another 4.5 oz this week, and I have now hit the 7 lb mark. Mummy is chuffed to see that my weight is going up at a steady rate, although she was tipping the increase to be 7 oz - because I was guzzling so much in the last week. Maybe next week?? It is still all going to my arms and legs, making them grow nice and long, but Mummy says I don't have an once of fat on me. She may be right. Auntie Catherine said I would probably hope that continues until I am 25 (although Mummy countered I would probably hope that for a lot longer!).

Chris the health visitor said that I have a bit of colic though. I guess that is what is giving me all my sore tummies. Oh, it does hurt. Mummy went off to Asda to stock up on some gripe water and Infacol. They have a funny smell, and don't taste at all like milk, but they aren't too bad. And they do help my tummy feel better so I don't cry so much.

About Me

My photo
Warrington, United Kingdom
I started growing around some auspicious date in May. There was some celebration involved, a bit of wine and a trip to the theatre. Mum was getting lots of presents ... I arrived in this world on February 18th 2009 at 12:40 pm, weighing 6 lb 13 oz. Mum and Dad are pretty chuffed with me!
